Turkey Trip
On June 22, fourteen of us are boarding a Delta flight for Istanbul and a tour of the Seven Churches of the Revelation. We'll be there for 10 days.
We'll spend 3 days in Istanbul (historic Constantinople), with tours of the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the historic Egyptian Spice Market, among others. We'll cruise the Bosphorus, visit the Orient Express, and the hotel seen in that famous movie, "Murder on the Orient Express."
Then, we'll head for the 7 churches; on the way, we'll see the Gallipoli peninsula, famous for the ferocious WW1 battle, stop at Troy (site of the Trojan Horse, made famous in the Iliad of Homer), and spend an evening at a hotel on the Aegean at the biblical site of Assos, and the next evening also on the Aegean at our hotel in Izmir.
Next we'll visit Pergamum, Thyatira, Smyrna, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Hierapolis, spending the night in the spa resort town of Pamukkale. Then, it's on to Aphrodisias, then two nights on the coast at Kusadasi, from which we'll visit Miletus and Ephesus (the highlights of the historic areas). Finally, we'll wing our way home to JFK and Connecticut, tired but thrilled at walking so many places where Paul, Timothy, Luke, and others walked.
In all this, we had our private tour (just our 14), with guide, driver, and delightful company, including several evenings of background information, relating all this to the Bible and to Church history. Wish you could have joined us. We'll give a full report when we return. Pray for us.
We began a 10 Sunday series on Ephesians on April 6. We will complete this series on June 15. After the Turkey trip, we'll resume our way through the Old Testament, beginning with Lamentations and Ezekiel
